Sovereign Grace Church exists to spread the joy of Jesus in Orange and beyond.

Our History

Sovereign Grace Church of Orange began in a living room in Tustin in 2006. A small group of believers in Orange County were relating to our sister church in Pasadena with the hope of establishing a gospel-proclaiming church in Orange County. Over the next few years, God made their hope a reality.

Pastor Mike Davis was sent by the Pasadena church in 2006 and Pastor Eric Turbedsky came from a partner church in San Diego in 2009 to officially plant the church. After meeting in Irvine for the first few years, the pastoral team led the church to relocate to Old Towne Orange on Easter Sunday 2012. We’ve been here ever since and we hope to be here long into the future.

Our Culture

Though every church shares the essentials of the Christian faith in common, each local church has distinct characteristics, a culture. By God's grace, this is who we are and intend to be in the future. We describe our culture with four words: joyful, generous, ordinary, neighbors.

Joyful

God has made us glad. The good news that He has redeemed us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is a source of everlasting joy. Joy fuels our life in Christ. In our church, it can be seen in our passionate singing, our smiling faces as we greet one another on Sundays, and our cheerful acts of service.

Generous

God has been good to us. Everything we have we received from Him, so we give back generously for His sake. This includes our finances, our time, our energy, and our affections. We give so that our joy in Him would spread to others.

Ordinary

God uses our ordinary efforts for His extraordinary purposes. We’re not trying to be the next best thing. We're simply doing what Christians have done for the last 2,000 years. We worship together. We pray together. We grow together. We serve God together.

Neighbors

God has placed us in a neighborhood and called us to be good neighbors. We feel a responsibility for those outside of our church. We seek to befriend them. We show them mercy when needs arise. We invite them to join us in trusting and following Jesus.

Our Values

The values of a church reflect who they are and what they believe. At Sovereign Grace Church of Orange, we are committed to the six values below.

Gospel-Centered

We believe that the gospel—the good news of God’s saving activity in Jesus Christ—is the pinnacle of His redemptive acts, the center of the Bible’s story, and the essential message for our faith, life, and witness. We are committed to preaching the gospel, singing the gospel, praying the gospel, and building our church upon the gospel.

Reformed

Scripture presents the all-glorious, triune God as the source and end of all things, sovereignly working all things according to His will. At the center of God’s purposes in the world is the exaltation of His glory through the redemption of sinners. To this end, we believe that God sovereignly chooses men and women to be saved in order to display His immeasurable grace and glory.

Missional

Our gospel-centrality entails not only treasuring the gospel personally but sharing it passionately. The risen Christ commissioned His church to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18–20). We do this in partnership with churches in our denomination, Sovereign Grace Churches.

Continuationist

We believe the Holy Spirit desires to continually fill each believer with increased power for Christian life and witness, including the giving of His supernatural gifts for the building up of the church and for various works of ministry in the world. We are eager to pursue God’s active presence in all its breadth, that Christ may be magnified in our lives, in the church, and among the nations.

Complementarian

We believe it was God’s glorious plan to create men and women in His image, giving them equal dignity and value in His sight, while appointing differing and complementary roles for them within the home and the church

Elder-Governed

Jesus is the leader of his Church and he has called, qualified, and gifted pastors to imitate Him in the task of caring, guiding, teaching, and serving His people.

Partnership

We enjoy a rich relationship with churches in the Orange area and around the globe. Our closest ties are with the sister churches in our denomination, Sovereign Grace Churches. We partner together to care for one another and advance the gospel.
